Working allot on the Locomotive lately. Made so many parts that I even can't remember how much.
Still, there is allot to do. But if I keep up, I could manage to get it to run on compressed air at the end of this year. Then, next year will be making the boiler. Exciting!

Some activities at the shop this weekend. Normally I have a love hate relationship with flat parts. Most of the time made out of thick sheet metal, or flat bar. I do not really like to clamp down a piece of plate. This part however, is milled out of solid block, milled the contour and the other features, then saw it of from both sides, leaving a 0.08 thin line and breaking it off by hand. Done!

Some progress on the Locomotive project. Make the first Cylinder parts. Front and back plates are out of brass, the actual Cylinder tube its self is out of bronze. More to come, and then solder it together.

Back on 2020 i received the amazing new Still X7 2020. I think I was one of the first but haven't showered allot what i already have done with the machine. Decent size steel parts to tiny brass parts and even planning to do some Titanium soon. I'm still amazed how stable and rigid the machine is.

Turning some bronze bushings for the 7-1/4" locomo

Turning some bronze bushings for the 7-1/4" locomotive. This material does machine nice, but the chips are tiny and gets everywhere!
Bushings are lightly press fitted with some loctite in to the hornblocks. Can't wait to have it fully on it's wheels!

The shop got a new machine!

Just in time before the end of the year. A Emcoturn 325-II from 2005.
6300 rpm, 12 tool turret, and life tool. Part catcher and pneumatic work holding.

Last view days I was doing a check up around the whole machine and clean it properly. Gave it a good polish.

A while I go i shrink fit the wheels on the axis. This was a critical process and almost failed. Luckily I managed to save this and it eventually came out pretty good. Next is make the dummy leaf springs and the actual springs.

All wheels are done! Well, I think. I had the idea to engrave the edge of the wheels. Back in the days these engraving contains production date, factory and material batch. Most model builders skip those, but I want to add this to have this little details that can be a eye catcher.

The beauty of model engineering. Al the small parts and miniature bolts on one spot together gives one amazing detail. Important is to not give some parts large chamfers. Sometimes not at all and just deburr it with some fine sandpaper.

Some buffer housing for my 7-1/4 locomotive out of steel, made on the Emcoturn 220. Way bigger than I'm used to, but still fun to make.

Next is the backplate. And hopefully I can start finishing the smaller wheels to start on the bogie. After that, i can shrink fit all the wheels on the axles.

Some milled parts for your inner soul.
I have made these parts a while a go for my 3D printer.
I like the 'tabs' option in Fusion 360. Makes it easy to mill trough plate work without drawing a line and selecting as a boundary.

All are milled on my X7-20.

Just a random picture of my fully restored Emcoturn 220. All axis are converted to servo motors, and even the spindle has a servo spindle motor. All pneumatic hardware are functional by M-codes.

I am still very happy with this machine and it's capabilities. It's better than it was!
